We have a beautiful Fruit Serpentine Soapstone carving of a Hippopotamus ~ created in Zimbabwe by well-known ( now retired ) Master Carver , Alek Kambiri , who is known worldwide in Galleries and Institutions for his fine artwork of African themes .
The piece weighs 13lbs and is 12' long by 6" wide .
Fruit Serpentine , native to the Kwekwe area of Zimbabwe is a dense but finely striated stone that throws off really nice differing colours of green , brown and bronze in sunlight .
